It’s not as fun as Wakfu, but marginally more rewarding and easier to manage momentum as long as you have a good guild to help guide you Its intensely immersive in both gameplay and story as long as you like to read. The MMO is one of the largest mediums to access the world building of the Ankama franchise. Its content was made to be able to engage players at all levels (and scales upwards to retain replay ability) and it’s just easier and more linear to progress in Wakfuĭofus is a game where you keep playing because you like the game. (I was really looking forward to Slage and Starfu).Īs an immense fan of the Ankama franchise for over 15 years, playing every game, reading every novel, buying silly merch, and still playing Dofus to this day Wakfu is their second child, but it's doing better than all the other projects Ankama has started and then abandoned over the years. (The Dofus movie threw the show-vs-game timeline out of whack, for reasons which are spoilers for the movie)ĭofus is definitely the more successful game, and it's still getting major updates. Dofus takes place about a thousand years before Wakfu (you'll find all of the location and class names familiar, but the world is laid out very differently and the classes' powers are mechanically different though thematically similar), Wakfu-the-game is set about a dozen years before Wakfu-the-series, since Yugo has a cameo as a baby, and I have no idea when Dofus-the-series takes place with respect to the game. If timeline matters, neither game really directly references their respective shows (Wakfu or Dofus: The Treasures of Kerubim), though characters from them appear as cameos or even questgivers. Wakfu is a post apocalyptic world with many islands scattered. Finally as a general theme, Wakfu world seems a little bit, Idk darker? Depressing? Dofus world has a huge continent, everyone is alive and well. You can do it in Dofus, but only on certain servers and through multiaccounting, which is a little bit more awkward. I haven't tried it, but I've heard that Wakfu has a system to control few heroes at once, which makes it easier for solo playthrough. Although Dofus might have better item diversity. You can put points not just in strength or agi, but in extra Range or Action Point. In Wakfu Ankama allowed itself a little bit more freedom, there are separate pools for damaging and support skills. Builds in Dofus seem a little bit "safer", classes are more similar to each other, but also probably more polished and balanced. Not sure is it still a thing, but you could even elect a king among players, which would then set up taxes, etc. You can interact with the world, plant trees, seed extra monsters. In Wakfu there's 1 big area and the camera follows you. Everything in Dofus is fixed in its place, you can't change the world, the map is a combination of thousands miniareas. As a result the fights are faster and more brutal. Instead of cooldowns there are wakfu points - a limited source for most powerful skills. Wakfu combat is more dynamic, you can cast more spells per turn, if use them in the right order, the kinda align in combos, plus you're rewarded if you move fast. They both have turn based combat, but Dofus combat is "slower", more tactical, you have to plan your cooldowns right. If you're looking for a MMO that plays in a similar way I haven't yet found one unfortunately.I've played both, although Wakfu might've changed since I played it regularly. Transistor is a fun action/kind-of-turn-based/kind-of-strategy game with a great story and a 10/10 soundtrack. I'm sure they are all emulate'able but they are 100% worth the money if you have a 3ds.įor PC Divinity Original Sin 2 is a 10/10 tactical RPG, it starts a bit slow in the early few levels but its immensely fun and engaging, the Role-Playing system they have is one of the best I've seen (probably the best). I've been planning to get Fates so I can't say anything about that but Awakening was fun. Have you tried the Fire Emblem series on the 3ds? Personally one of my favourite recent series I've had the pleasure of playing, Fire emblem Echoes is my personal favourite with it being full voice acted with a 50-60 hour story that I really REALLY enjoyed.Įchoes is a remake of an older FE game so some of the mechanics are quite plain, not able to pair up units is the main difference between it and Awakening/Fates.
